There was a time when these beat sessions were done in-person — Four guys just chopping up samples. We all moved away and decided to continue the weekly ritual on Myspace. These ThrowBackSessions are an attempt to archive all of the WBS sessions even the ones in-person (if I can find them). There was also a time when Myspace shut us down for copyright infringement which is why some of these sessions don’t have the name of the original sample/artist ( I didn’t know yet about the Fair Use Act #loophole). Anyways, I’ll continue to post these when I find time.
Note: PMBeatz’s submission was used on the collaborative EP, Deep Foundation & Hydroponikz present: Generation ILL. What’s interesting is that PM originally submitted the song with no title. To me, the chorus sounded like it was saying “To The Beat” — I opted to name it that rather than Untitled. Later I found out that part of the sample was actually saying “…little thing”. To The Beat ended up becoming the concept of the song and DF/Dro killed it on the verses. Make sure to cop the EP if you haven’t already (available on itunes/cdbaby). Below is a video from the NYC Release Party from another angle. “To The Beat” is @ 1:11, but make sure to watch the whole video, especially the video teaser at the end. As always, thanks for listening. peace, illa
