You can really feel the passionate cry of an addict in Marvin Gaye’s Falsetto. This week we sampled Flyin’ High (in the friendly sky), a song about a drug addiction. The choice of drug in this case is heroin which ran rampant during the 1970s. This is actually an alternate version of the original song which was mixed a year earlier under the name, “Sad Tomorrows”. While I was listening to this earlier version I realized that eladbrit used it for one of his older beats (which is one of my personal favorites by the way). I’ve included both the alternate version and eladbrit’s beat below as well.
Also, our hearts go out to the family of Nujabes, a soulful dude who died way too early in a tragic car accident a month ago. He laid the soundscape behind Samurai Champloo. I had Nujabes on constant rotation when I used to study back in college. He lives on through the music he left us. RIP.
