This week, we celebrate the life and music of Nate Dogg (born as Nathaniel Hale) who recently passed away on March 15th, 2011 at age 41. His laid back baritone voice became the signature sound of the g-funk era of hip hop. There have been a lot of tributes to Nate Dogg – one of my favorites being the tribute mix by DJ Premier. While he is most known for his collaborations and hooks, make sure you check out his solo tracks as well such as this video:
There were a lot of samples to pick from, but we ended up chopping up the sample used in Dr. Dre’s “The Next Episode” which features Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, and Nate Dogg. Another strong week for WBS… below the featured producers/beats you’ll find other songs which use this sample.
