So less than 2 hours ago I was 80 or so miles away from home. I was weaving through traffic and pushing 95 mph to get home with enough time to post this week’s BeatSession. I had six guests packed into my one-bedroom apartment for the long memorial day weekend. The weekend was filled with good drinks, good food, and even better company. Despite the busy schedule, we managed to find time to check out this diggin’ spot that I’ve never been to (Yesterday and Today Records). Their dollar bin selection wasn’t that extensive, but I managed to cop some Ahmad Jamal, Roberta Flack, and some Vanilla Fudge. If any of y’all are in the Miami or Orlando area, make sure to hit me up — there’s a ton of spots i haven’t hit up yet.
Quick Updates:
Hydroponikz’s “Grown” album available 5.31.11 at CDBaby/iTunes/ Hydroponikz.com – Generation ILL (via PMBeatz) teams up once again with Hydroponikz on “The Movement”, the second track off his new album which drops tomorrow. Also, be sure to listen and download the first single here.
Lyrical Empire (Full Length) – Several months ago we posted the trailer for this documentary about hip hop in metro manila. It is directed and produced by our boy, Mark V., over at FilAmFunk and features some artists connected with WBS. The full-length video is now available here.
Video Premier of “Generation ILL” by Deep Foundation and Hydroponikz– The world premier of the music video which was co-directed/edited by Sideways is being unveiled during Deep Foundation/Pnoy Apparel’s NYC Philippine Independence Parade Party on June 4, 2011. Details of the event can be found here and we’ll be sure to provide the link to the video once it is available.
Anyways, this week’s sample comes True Reflection’s 1973 album, Where I’m Coming From. This soulful quartet recorded just one album, but it is an amazing album which I think we’ll be revisiting in future sessions.
Thanks for participating and listening each week and make sure you tune in next week for our tribute to Gil Scott Heron who passed away this past weekend.

All these are hot as shit. Chrizo brought the heat. Ant Hearn’s was unique as usual. Bruice did his thing, kill’s those osc’s. Nev’s was on some straight G shit. Lovin’ the bass thump on Sideways’. Thadizzie brought that mellow shit, I’m feelin’ that. Peralta’s sounds like an action flick haha. For some reason Hijrah’s mixing really stands out to me (Positively). Could imagine 8ball and MJG rappin’ off 25/8s and RZA on Pho3nix’s.

A connoisseur’s words raining true Dingo.
Love the thick darkness in your tune. I’m thinking Nas, Jay-Z and DMX on that one.
Thanks @Dingo, your beat is ill.
Everyone’s beats are on point. Definitely can’t wait til the next sample is posted.
PM must’ve posted his late, didn’t even see it. SHIT, what kind’ve equipment do you use?
