Original Sample:

Didn’t I by Darondo

Darondo is not a mystery.

As a matter of fact, Darondo’s life is very much an open book. Sometimes we view musicians and artists as giants who are measured by their achievements or their masterpieces. However, I think there is something to be said for the everyman who is measured only by his journey.

In the early 1970s, Darondo had recorded 3 songs and performed only 4 times on stage. His fourth performance would be his last—after opening for James Brown, he decided to leave his music career on that high note. After his brief stint as a vocalist, it has been reported that Darondo took up pimping, international artifact collecting, and even physical therapy. After a fulfilling if not all that extraordinary life, he found his way back to music thanks to BBC Radio 1 DJ Giles Peterson, who played Darondo’s 1973 single, “Didn’t I,” on the program. This everyman with a penchant for singing has been performing in the Bay Area ever since with a renewed love for performing as well as a new record deal with Ubiquity.

Darondo is not a mystery…but there is one mystery still to be solved:

Where is illa?

After merging two parallel universes, it’s almost as if he never existed…
