The Original Sample:
illa is currently ghost hunting at Old Man McGregor’s abandoned carnival in Hialeah, FL. He got a call from some of the neighborhood kids who claimed they were witnesses to some very strange paranormal activity near the funhouse. illa set up cameras throughout the park and said he would be back in time to do the write-up this week, but no one has heard from him since he left 7 days ago…7 daysssss…
Anywho…as I recall, the first time we used Cortex was on my birthday back in July. This is the third time this year we have used this group as a sample for the WBS and I’m sure it won’t be the last. These guys are amazing.
Undulating rhythmic sequences go from high to low in the blink of an eye then return to uber-cool breakdowns all linked together by Mireille Dalbray’s hauntingly bewitching voice. It’s enough to make you want to call off work for a day just to listen on repeat.
On a related note, peep the video teaser from Common’s next single which samples (hopefully) this week’s WBS sample. Common + No ID Production + Cortex’s Troupeau Bleu = Classic.

Another dope Cortex sample!, this is the 3rd one I believe…and as always It was difficult and challenging to flip a Cortex joint, Sacré bleu! lol ..pardon my french…Everyone killed it!! my personal faves are Chrizo’s joint and also Nev’s…proud to be a part of this group of beatsmiths… til next week!
I think Def Justice, and Nev came hard. Definitely had that head nod factor! Yo 25/8, that hot boyz remix is hot!
Thanks man I appreciate the love man.
dizzie and kwazi, great job, my favs! dope!
I like that ghostface remix especially because I have flipped that acapella before and it was a straight bitch for me to time and place at a new tempo, so i respect that remix out of personal struggle, ha
Thanks, man. The whole thing was a struggle, lol. Rushed to get this one in on time.
everytime we’ve chopped up a cortex sample its been an epic session! the whole album must b a classic!
thanx for the shoutout chrizo, your beat and def justice were my favs this week!
I’m pretty sure Madlib flipped this crazily. When I heard the vocals, that’s the first thing I thought of. Gotta research it though.
It was another Cortex track. My bad, haha.
