The Original Sample:
What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life? by Milt Jackson
This week’s sample comes from jazz vibraphonist Milt Jackson’s 1972 release, Sunflower. The song was also sampled on Mos Def’s track, “Brooklyn”, from Black on Both Sides.
Quick Updates:
► One Legged No Handed Backflip Off the Planet by O2 (feat. Prod by Paper Son) – Check out the latest project by O2 which features production by WBS family, Paper Son.
► MORE MOGYA by Larry Achiampong – We know him as Blackph03nix and if you liked last year’s release MEH MOGYA (SAMPLE OF ME), which was put on rotation by the likes of Gilles Peterson via BBC Radio 1, then you’ll love this follow-up release by WBS’s London representative. The samples from this album were used by permission of Musician, Journalist, Author, and Musicologist, John Collins who has been involved in the West African music scene since 1969. The main reason MORE MOGYA exists is to celebrate and honour the importance of this great archive.
► MUGSHOT ft. Hydroponikz – Unnecessary (Prod by PMBeatz) – You can listen and download it here or you can see the visuals below. Featuring fellow Queens native Hydroponikz, and production by DMV’s own PMBeatz, “Unnecessary” looks to be the first visual offering and lead single off of MUG SHOT’s upcoming debut solo project entitled “Punching Clocks.” Video by aayyoojeff & Wayne Himself Productions
