The Original Sample:
Don’t Leave Me Lonely by King Floyd
This week’s sample comes from King Floyd’s 1971 self-titled release. This album features “Groove Me” which was King Floyd’s most commercially successful song. But it is “Don’t Leave Me Lonely” which is most identifiable (to hip hop heads at least); specifically at 1:15 which was sampled by RZA on “Heaven’s Sake” from the Wu-Tang Forever album.
Big shout out to Blackph03nix for his amazing chops this week and his tribute to Trayvon Martin. It’s unbelievable that in 2012 a person is not prosecuted for taking an unarmed kid’s life… in America… in Florida!? It’s just sad. I believe that the truth should at least have a chance to come out in court. If you haven’t already, be sure to sign the petition here.
